Datuk Seri Dr KK Chai, President of the Malaysian Chinese Assembly Hall (MCAH), has stated that former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad’s recent comments on “not being loyal enough and needing assimilation” towards the Chinese and Indian ethnicities are an insult to the intelligence of the Malaysian people. He emphasized that since Malaysia’s independence 67 years ago, the contributions of all ethnicities to the country have been evident.
He said, Malaysians of various ethnicities have been law-abiding citizens, showing mutual respect and collectively building the nation. This is an undeniable reality as Malaysia belongs to everyone.
“The multiculturalism of our nation is the foundation for us to compete on the global stage and is also the key to Malaysia’s current success; not only are we proud of this, but our loyalty to the country does not need to be questioned,” he said.
He stressed that as a senior leader of the country, Dr. Mahathir should not use harsh words against the people of various ethnicities. During the country’s independence, the forefathers of the various communities planted the seeds of friendship, and over the years, these relationships have blossomed, bringing shared prosperity. Therefore, there is no need to doubt loyalty towards each other as through thick and thin, everyone has remained loyal to the country.
These remarks were made by Datuk Seri Dr KK Chai during his opening speech at the 17th “BB Charity Carnival” event. On that day, over 500 volunteers participated, distributing gift bags and red packets, benefiting 1,500 less fortunate individuals of various ethnicities, including the elderly, orphans, and single-parent families.
