President of Kuala Lumpur Chinese Assembly Hall (KLCAH) Datuk Seri Dr KK Chai, expressed his satisfaction in witnessing the rise of women’s power in Malaysia. According to the latest data, women now account for 30.6% of board positions in the top 100 listed companies on the Malaysian Stock Exchange, achieving the target six months ahead of the original deadline of December 31.
Datuk Seri Dr KK Chai stated that when considering all listed companies on the Malaysian stock market, women hold nearly 25% of board positions. This achievement signifies a turning point in gender equality in Malaysia, as it demonstrates that women can exert significant influence as leaders in both private enterprises and boardrooms, bringing them closer to achieving gender equality.
Nevertheless, he emphasized that besides showing respect to female entrepreneurs, society should also recognize and commend selfless housewives who contribute to their families.
Whether they are female entrepreneurs or dedicated housewives, they are all heroes in our society, he said.
Referring to the historic moment when Malaysian actress Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh became the first Asian and Chinese who won the Oscar for best actress, Datuk Seri Dr KK Chai quoted her acceptance speech, saying, “Ladies, don’t let anybody tell you you’re ever past your prime.”
He encouraged everyone, regardless of their current position, not to let others define them as “outdated” but to remain steadfast in pursuing their own aspirations and desires.
Datuk Seri Dr KK Chai made these remarks during his opening speech at the “Smart Women, Charismatic Leaders” event organized by the Women’s Division of Kuala Lumpur Chinese Assembly Hall. The event was attended by distinguished guests, including KLCAH Deputy President and Venue Sponsor Dato Alex Wong, Women’s Division Chief Datuk Ada Poon Yew, Chairperson of the Organizing Committee Angela, DATO DR ANGIE NG, Ms. Aemy Wong, PROF DR. NG PO MIN, PPSS – LYDIA GOH, BUSINESS NETWORKING CLUB – Mr.Nelson Liew, Tai Pu Klang Association, Women Council – Hoopy as well as former President of the Small and Medium Enterprises Association of Malaysia Dato’ Michael Kang.
During sharing session, Datuk Ada Poon highlighted that women’s success in business relies on three “keys”: courage, loyalty, and confidence. She also encouraged women to pursue their dreams and ideals and showcase their charm in various fields.
